Sokol Detector - Privacy Policy

Sokol Detector is a browser extension that works with the Sokol Detector desktop app for macOS. It helps you notice when a message you are about to send to a web AI chat contains a secret, such as a password, key, card number, or personal detail.

What the extension accesses

• The text you type into supported AI chat sites (ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Google AI Studio, Grok), at the moment you send a message.
• It does not read the AI's replies or any other page content.

How your data is used

• The captured text is sent only to the Sokol Detector app running locally on your own computer, at the address 127.0.0.1, and is analyzed on your device.
• The extension does not send your text, messages, or any personal data to Sokol's servers or to any third party.
• We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for any purpose other than the on-device secret detection described here.

Storage

• The extension stores only small technical state (connection status and retry timing) in the browser's local storage.
• Detected items are stored by the local app on your own Mac, not by us.

The desktop app

• The Sokol Detector app runs the detector locally on your Mac.
• Once a week it may send anonymous counts (how many requests were checked and how many secrets were found, by kind) to help size usage and improve detection. These are counts only and never include your text, and the app shows you exactly what is sent.
